    Record gas price

    More good news for us!!

It looks we are going all going to be losing more disposable income shortly as fuel prices are likely to push are energy tariffs up.

This FT article reports that the main suppliers are not commenting on this rise and the affect it will have on consumers yet, but it is a good bet that this rise will be pushed onto the consumer.

Maybe it is time for me to increase to go green to help push my energy requirements down.

Anyone have any advice on ways to cut my energy bills?

I looked into getting a solar water heater a couple of years ago but the initial cost put me off. However, the ever increasing cost of energy bills could make this cost seem more affordable now.

What I need is some guidance on what are the recommended first steps a homeowner should go through to reduce energy consumption.

If you find a guide then let me know!

    Re: Record gas price

what happened to the alternative ie= wind power solar power, i am sure we have all by now changed utility suppliers and followed all the common sense ideas for saving gas and electric. In my case i was able to reopen one of my fireplaces which now burns wood out of the garden in winter.

What i hoped we would be discussing was wind and solar power as an alternative.

So, big increases in gas and electricity bills are likely this year, leading energy suppliers have confirmed. The CEO of Centric (British Gas) said it was "clear that gas prices are going to have to move up" and he acknowledged that predictions of 40% price rises could be accurate. Industry sources have also suggested households could pay £400 more a year on average for gas and electricity.

With electricity bills rising, solar power systems are becoming increasingly popular. According to Ecoswitch (the green comparison website) it's easier than ever to get one installed in your home and the price of solar systems has gone down 80% in the last two decades and there is a wide variety of choices on the market today.

     According to the BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7467336.stm)

As many as a quarter of British homes could be fitted with solar heating panels under new government plans for a "green revolution and the plan will also call for 3,500 new wind turbines to be erected across the UK. Apparently there was now a "huge momentum" in renewable energy provision and said the government would ensure that carbon emission reduction was the "core concept behind our energy strategy".

The proposals have been described as "the most ambitious renewable energy strategy for Britain that we have ever seen".

    Re: Record gas price

The UK's biggest domestic energy supplier has announced record price increases. British Gas owner Centrica is raising gas prices by a record 35% and electricity prices by 9%.

I guess the rest of the 'Big six' will follow shortly.

Mind you, after reading 'The great squeeze' blog, e-on trying to increase the writer's monthly payments by 215% really takes the biscuit!
