Moving House and the Credit Crunch

I made a bold step this weekend; put my house for up for sale. A move that has been met with sharp intake of breath, and ‘during the credit crunch, you must be crazy' comment from friends and family. My thinking is that sometimes you need to take a risk to get what you want. Is there ever a good time to move anyway?

Why am I telling you this? Basically following my inevitable highs and lows of the house buying and selling process should offer a good start to my blog. I am sure over the coming months I will have plenty to comment on.

So my first step was find an estate agent that didn't make me cringe when the sales patter came out in its full ‘glory'. First two candidates failed at this task, which made me think there must be an alternative to this. Not all of them can fit in with the stereotype, surely?

Bingo - a short search online discovered that there is another option, House Revolution. Thankfully they seemed to match what we are looking for and have decided to put our house up for sale with them. Things are in the early stages they seem to be very good, helpful, and hopefully honest.

House Revolution is slightly different from the standard estate agents, in that the fees are vastly reduced but they offer virtually the same level of support and promotion of your house.  We opted for the £499 up front fee, which is around £2000 less than a standard agent's fee. They have already been round to take photos and measured up. Now the house, in all its glory, is online with the major property websites including rightmove.co.uk. Let's just hope that they can deliver on what they promise.

So will it all end in tears, or will the process go smoothly with my little family soon to be settled in a new home? Well only time will tell, you will just need to wait until the next update to find out how it all is going.
